Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Soldiers Party

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a wide array of heroes, and a thrilling plot including angels, fiends, and dark forces increasing in influence within the urban setting.

Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

The third episode finished on a major cliffhanger and presented the first table of adventurers who will branch out from the primary party to begin their separate journey, apart from the additional parties.

This warrior group includes Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

This explains, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Strategists, and Questers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a typically action-packed fight-heavy story mode where non-violent answers are scarce.

Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might look out of place, but the actions of the third episode make it clear why these five characters are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the party knows exactly where to go next after a intense initial meeting with the enemy group.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose death started the story’s plot—exploited the foes for his selfish purposes, breaking into the secret base, assaulting the rogue, and taking all the powerful objects to auction.

The traitor then cleared his liabilities and ran away to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each adventurer has a individual motive to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, wants revenge.
  • Kattigan is familiar with Timmony and advises that it is a dangerous place.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having resisted his house’s orders to eliminate the target and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their position as important members in the powerful family could enable the team enter places they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor vowed a life debt to Wicander for his deliverance and will now follow him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are sought by the authorities that govern Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The hero are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and Wicander betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by the clan.

This means them little choice but to journey toward Timmony in pursuit of the antagonist.

Future Episodes

According to the recent installment’s post-show segment, we find out that the Soldiers table will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight cast members to round up the Explorers and Schemers parties.

Fans can look forward to finding out which characters will be assigned to which table in the season’s concluding setup installment, released on the upcoming Thursday.
