PSG Overcomes Marseille in a Shootout to Lift French Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now claimed the prestigious cup on 14 different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the showdown featuring the Ligue 1 champions and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring in the opening stages.

However, Marseille struck twice late to seize a surprise advantage. First, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial leveler in the final moments to send the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 penalty victory.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the last 13 seasons.
